ASS-G

Ok - so the UK law says that if you work, you get paid, right?
Wrong!
Not in the minds of the management of the company that I used to (thank GOD it's past tense) work for. The following is a TRUE narration of the lengths they are going to to avoid paying me my rightful money for the last month I worked for.

I hand in my notice on October 9, work my notice period - a week , and then work an additional week because they can't get their heads around to finish a project and then finally leave at 6:15pm on Friday, October 20th, never to go back.

When I did not get paid on October 30th - the last day of the month I realised why most of the other employees who quit simply walked out the last day of the month, after ensuring their salary was deposited in their bank.

So I called around and got legal advice, wrote to them asking what was going on. Even though I had heard horror stories about them, I still could not believe that they would just not pay for all the hours I toiled in that dreary place.

So instead of telling me that they won't pay me because they were not happy with me or my work - they take the mental institution way out.

They send me a letter, recorded delivery on November 1, 2006 which was (pre) dated for October 1, 2006. It simply stated that I had failed to notify them of my absence yet again and due to my insubordination (they spelt that with a capital 'i', in the middle of the sentence - not sure what point they were trying to make), they terminate my employement immediately.

Points to be noted -
1) I have been absent ONCE in the last 4 months that I worked there. And that was because I sprained my ankle and it had swollen to the size of a balloon while I was still in the office
2) October 1, 2006 was a Sunday
3) Immediate termination due to not calling them on a Sunday - dont even get my started on unfair dismissal!

Anyways - when I asked them if they were serious about this letter - that it made no sense whatsoever, they tried to justify it. And the following takes craziness to new heights.

I got an email saying that they posted my letter on October 2nd, 2006 that I returned back to them, which they re-sent in November.

AAAAH.

Am going to sue their fat asses. What frustrates me is that if they had paid me even a part of the money that they owed me, I would have just let them go - good riddance to bad rubbish. But they asked for it. I wish I could sue them for harassment as well. I guess I could come up with a script of a movie, something like Office Space outlining the insanity of the place. I could get famous at their expense. I am a hopeless optimist! But first, need to make them pay since only last night, I was contemplating whether to buy a pack of cigarettes or whether to save that dosh for tonight's dinner.

Went for the fags....

Mischief Night

My friend had the perfect reaction after watching this movie - How on Earth do I describe what I just saw?

She was spot on. You cannot. I cannot either. Some scenes are heart warming and some are blood curling. It calls to attention some very seriousl socio-economic issues set against religious fanaticsm. A comedy with a serious undertone or a serious movie with comic relief? Mischief Night is an eye opener to say the least.

A Must Watch

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Have you had the opportunity to ride the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang roller coaster yet. If you have, I salute you and if you have not - make it the next movie that you rent/buy because it is a movie well worth it's money.

Robert Downey's constant rambling, Val Kilmer's dry as gin humour and Michelle Monaghan's spunkiness are packed in with perfect coordination alongside the glitz glamour and pizazz of LA. Fast paced, witty and absolutely hilarious - Shane Black's directorial debut is a masterpiece.

Just a note to all those designers out there - check out the title sequence. One of the most creative ones I have seen in the recent past.

A Line is a Dot that Went for a Walk

My main reason for starting this blog was to vent. Almost a pushover at times, I have been a strong proponent of forgive and forget, live and let live, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you know, the likes. But the recent barrage of events in my life has made me want to raise Edward Munch from the dead and make him rethink his 'Scream' in a whole new perspective.

What do you do when you have to leave the city you love? A city that you were not born in, a city you were not raised in, but a city that you chose to make your home because it's streets made you feel alive. What do you do when you have you leave it, not because you want to, because you have to?

What do you do when you have to take a break from your work that you are passionate about? The company you worked for sincerely and honestly tries to brand you incompetent and a liar just to feed their arrogance?

What do you do when you want to go back home and silence the world in your mother's arms, but you can't because she is too far away, in another country, you have bills to pay and can't take off work?

What do you do when the sweetest love story of your life is shattered by a simple lie?

Yes, you are right - when all this happens, in UNISON, you take a long break in the Caribbean and soak up the sun. But since I cannot afford it I opt for the next best thing - not think about it.

Or not.
